The Senior Strategy, Planning and Insight Officer role sits within Durham University’s Strategic Planning & Insight Office, a central function responsible for supporting institutional decision-making through high-quality analysis, planning, and insight generation. The post contributes to shaping university strategy, academic business models, and long-term institutional performance by delivering analytical work across a range of strategic priorities.

The role supports the development and application of management information, business intelligence, market and sector insight, risk analysis, forecasting, and modelling. It plays a key part in producing evidence-based analysis that informs planning, investment decisions, and institutional strategy. The postholder will work collaboratively across teams to strengthen Durham University’s reputation, financial sustainability, and overall performance through robust analytical support.

This is a fixed-term, full-time position requiring active engagement with multiple strands of strategic work. The role typically involves working across campus-based arrangements, contributing to cross-functional projects, and supporting senior stakeholders with actionable insight and reporting.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are expected to demonstrate relevant experience in analytical, planning, or insight-based roles, ideally within higher education, public sector, or similarly complex organisational environments. A strong academic background in a relevant discipline is required, along with evidence of applying analytical thinking to support organisational decision-making.

Required expertise/skills
Candidates should have strong skills in data analysis, strategic planning, and interpretation of complex datasets. Experience with business intelligence tools and data visualisation platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar systems is advantageous. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to present complex findings clearly, and experience working with stakeholders to inform strategic outcomes. Familiarity with forecasting, modelling, and higher education strategy is beneficial.

Salary details
£38,784 to £46,049 per annum, depending on experience and grading.
