Research Group Administrator (Temporary Cover)

General Description:
The University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a Research Group Administrator on a temporary maternity cover basis within the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy. This is a dynamic and varied role that plays a critical part in supporting Principal Investigators (PIs) and enabling the delivery of world-class research.
The postholder will provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support across a wide range of activities, including research grant applications, diary management, travel arrangements (including risk assessments), conference coordination, maintenance of research group records, preparation of staff timesheets, and budget monitoring.
Working closely with colleagues across Finance, Grants, Human Resources, Procurement, and other administrative teams, the successful candidate will contribute to the smooth operational functioning of the research environment. The role offers exposure to diverse aspects of academic administration and provides an opportunity to work within a collaborative and high-performing research setting.
This is a full-time fixed-term position for one year or until the return of the postholder, whichever is earlier. Part-time working arrangements may be considered, with working hours and patterns discussed at interview. Applications are also welcomed from internal candidates seeking secondment opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Open to candidates with relevant administrative experience or transferable skills
- Prior experience in a higher education environment is advantageous but not essential
Required Expertise/Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to manage confidential information in compliance with data protection standards
- Proficiency in digital administrative tools such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
- Capability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively
Salary Details:
£27,319 – £31,236 per annum
