The University of Cambridge is recruiting for a Research Associate or Research Assistant in Exascale Computing for Advanced Engineering within the Department of Engineering. This role is part of a cutting-edge research programme focused on the development and application of high-performance computing methods to solve complex engineering challenges at exascale levels.
The position is embedded in a leading academic environment that brings together experts in computational science, engineering modelling, and advanced numerical methods. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, implementation, and optimization of scalable computational algorithms and software frameworks for advanced engineering applications. The role supports collaborative research across multidisciplinary teams and external academic and industrial partners.
Key responsibilities include developing high-performance computing solutions, conducting advanced simulations, analysing large-scale engineering data, and contributing to peer-reviewed publications and research dissemination. The role may also involve supporting grant-funded project activities and contributing to the supervision of postgraduate researchers.
Eligibility Criteria:
• Candidates should hold or be close to completing a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline (for Research Associate level)
• Candidates with a strong Master’s degree and relevant research experience may be considered for Research Assistant level
• Strong academic background in computational methods or engineering science is required
• Applicants must meet the University of Cambridge research staff appointment standards
Required Expertise/Skills:
• Experience in high-performance computing or numerical simulation
• Strong programming skills in relevant scientific computing languages
• Knowledge of computational engineering or applied mathematics
• Ability to analyse and interpret large-scale data sets
• Experience with parallel computing or scalable algorithms is desirable
• Strong research writing and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in research teams
• Problem-solving skills and attention to technical detail
Salary Details
Salary will be in accordance with University of Cambridge research staff pay scales and will depend on experience and appointment level.
