Research Associate – Lincoln Theological Institute

The University of Manchester is seeking to appoint a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Lincoln Theological Institute (LTI) for a fixed term of 24 months, from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2028. LTI is a nationally and internationally recognized centre for the study of religion and society, promoting research into ethical, pastoral, social, and ecclesial issues. The successful candidate will design and execute a research project aligned with the Institute’s aims, contributing to its research profile and academic outputs. The post is based in the Department of Religions and Theology within the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures. Hybrid working arrangements may be considered.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should hold a relevant doctoral qualification (PhD) or equivalent research experience in theology, religious studies, or a closely related field. Candidates must demonstrate a strong record of research achievement and the potential to contribute independently to LTI’s research agenda.
Required expertise/skills
Candidates should have expertise in theological research, social or ethical analysis, and the ability to design and conduct independent research projects. Excellent academic writing, communication, and collaborative skills are essential. Familiarity with interdisciplinary research and engagement with social and ecclesial contexts is desirable.
Salary details
£37,694 per annum, full-time, with pension scheme, employee wellbeing services, generous annual leave, and additional paid closure over the Christmas period.
