General Description
The University of Bath is seeking a Research Associate in Composites Processing to join an innovative research project focused on developing advanced manufacturing methods for non-standard fibre angle composites used in aerospace structures. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research covering formability, fibre deposition, consolidation, resin infusion, and other design-for-manufacture processes. The role also includes materials testing and bonded joint analysis to improve the performance and manufacturability of advanced composite structures.
The postholder will work collaboratively with academic researchers and PhD students, undertaking analytical and experimental investigations into composite manufacturing processes. Responsibilities include conducting high-quality research, analysing and interpreting experimental results, contributing to project deliverables, publishing research findings, and supporting the wider objectives of the research programme.
Eligibility Criteria
- A PhD (or close to completion) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated research experience in composite materials, advanced manufacturing, or related engineering fields.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills suitable for academic research and publication.
Required Expertise/Skills
- Knowledge of composite materials and composite processing techniques.
- Experience in manufacturing processes such as formability, deposition, consolidation, and resin infusion.
- Understanding of design-for-manufacture principles for composite structures.
- Experience with materials characterisation, testing, and bonded joint analysis.
- Strong analytical, experimental, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prepare technical reports and publish research outcomes.
- Effective collaboration and project management skills.
Salary Details
Competitive salary in accordance with the University of Bath Research Associate pay scale (Grade and exact salary as specified by the University).
