Research Associate (Fixed Term)
University of Cambridge
Cambridge, United Kingdom
General Description – include all relevant details from the source
The University of Cambridge is inviting applications for the position of Research Associate (Fixed Term) within the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS). This is a full-time postdoctoral research position offered for a fixed-term period of three years, expected to begin in May 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The role provides an opportunity to join a dynamic academic environment and contribute to innovative interdisciplinary research in political thought, intellectual history, and the arts.
The successful candidate will collaborate for approximately half of their time with Professor Duncan Kelly on a new research project examining artistic modernisms—particularly in the visual arts and painting—and their role in reshaping art historical writing and practices. The project explores how developments in artistic modernism helped generate new languages and conceptual frameworks for thinking about politics and economics from the mid-to-late nineteenth century into the mid-twentieth century.
The Research Associate will provide academically rigorous and innovative research support related to these themes, contribute to intellectual collaboration within the research project, and assist with organizing academic workshops, seminars, and events. The role may also involve supporting the preparation of future research funding applications connected to the project’s research agenda.
For the remainder of their time, the postholder will have the opportunity to pursue their own independent research aligned with the broader academic interests of the department. The position may also include limited teaching contributions within the Department of Politics and International Studies. The role will primarily be based at the POLIS department in Cambridge when not undertaking research or project-related activities.
The University of Cambridge encourages applications from candidates across diverse backgrounds and is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion in its workforce. The successful applicant must be eligible to live and work in the United Kingdom.
