Research Assistant / Research Associate (Fixed Term)

University of Cambridge – Department of Computer Science and Technology

Cambridge, United Kingdom

General Description
The Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge invites applications for a Research Assistant or Research Associate (Fixed Term) position. This post is funded for two years in the first instance and provides an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research within a globally recognised academic department known for excellence in computer science, engineering, and applied mathematics research.

The successful candidate will join the TESSERA project, which has developed a globally significant foundation model for Earth observation capable of processing satellite imagery at 10-metre resolution across the world. The role focuses on advancing the capabilities of this platform by conducting innovative research in anomaly detection, change detection, and semantic interpretation of remote sensing imagery. The research sits at the intersection of computer vision, deep learning, and environmental science.

The postholder will contribute to the development and extension of the TESSERA framework by designing and implementing advanced algorithms and analytical methods for interpreting satellite imagery and extracting meaningful insights from large-scale Earth observation data. The position offers an opportunity to work within a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment that supports pioneering research and cross-disciplinary partnerships both within and outside the University.

The Department of Computer Science and Technology is internationally recognised for its research excellence and collaborative culture, encouraging transformative ideas that advance computing and its applications beyond academia. The department fosters strong partnerships with external organisations and promotes innovative research with global impact.

Applicants will be required to submit an application online through the University of Cambridge recruitment system. Applications should include a curriculum vitae and relevant supporting materials.
