General Description
Imperial College London’s Faculty of Engineering is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled research professional to join a cutting‑edge project in Medical Robotics and AI‑Assisted Telesurgery. The position sits within the Department of Mechanical Engineering and contributes to the development of advanced remote surgical systems, focusing on real‑time integration of software, artificial intelligence, and robotic hardware for safe, precise telesurgical intervention. This opportunity supports hybrid working arrangements with a strong emphasis on multidisciplinary research, clinical applicability and collaboration. The post is full‑time on a fixed‑term contract running up to 48 months, with an expected closing date for applications of Thursday 9 April 2026.

Eligibility Criteria
• PhD in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Control Engineering, or a closely related field or near completion of PhD (candidates without a PhD may be considered at the Research Assistant level).
• Proven capability in multidisciplinary research environments and contributions to published research or demonstrable high‑quality technical work.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across academic and clinical research partners.

Required Expertise/Skills
• Strong programming proficiency in Python and C++, with experience developing real‑time robotic and AI systems.
• Experience in deep learning and computer vision, including model development, fine‑tuning and deployment (for example using PyTorch or TensorFlow).
• Skilled in integrating perception, control, communication, and safety‑critical algorithms with robotic or electromechanical platforms.
• Solid grounding in robotics fundamentals such as kinematics, dynamics and control, particularly under remote operation and communication constraints.
• Ability to design, test, validate and benchmark systems in clinically relevant environments.

Salary Details
Salary range is approximately £43,863 to £57,472 per annum, reflecting appointment level and experience.
