The University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant or Research Associate within the Department of Engineering for a fixed-term position. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a high-impact research project within a world-leading academic institution.
The successful candidate will work as part of a research team to support the development and delivery of a defined research programme. Responsibilities include conducting experimental and/or computational research, collecting and analysing data, and contributing to the interpretation and dissemination of results. The role may involve collaboration with internal and external partners, supporting project coordination, and contributing to reports, academic publications, and presentations.
The post holder will also assist in maintaining research facilities and ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety, and research governance requirements. Depending on experience, the appointee may take on increasing responsibility for independent research and supervision of junior team members or students. Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for the Research Assistant position should hold a good honours degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering or a closely related field. For the Research Associate level, candidates should hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in a relevant area. Applicants must demonstrate a strong interest in the project’s research area and the ability to contribute effectively to academic research.
Required expertise/skills
Candidates should possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in experimental or computational research methods relevant to engineering. Proficiency in data analysis and relevant software or programming tools is desirable. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for contributing to publications and collaborative work. The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, manage workload effectively, and meet deadlines is required.
Salary details
£29,605 to £44,263 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
