Postdoctoral Scientist – PNAC (Dr Noe Rodriguez) – LMB 2794

MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB)

Cambridge, United Kingdom

General Description
The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scientist to join the research group led by Dr Noe Rodriguez. This position focuses on investigating the molecular mechanisms of protein–nucleic acid complexes (PNACs) using advanced structural biology approaches. The role offers the opportunity to work within one of the world’s leading institutes for molecular biology research, known for groundbreaking discoveries and cutting-edge technological innovation.

The successful candidate will contribute to research aimed at understanding the structural and functional mechanisms underlying protein–nucleic acid interactions. The project will involve the use of state-of-the-art structural biology techniques, particularly cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), alongside complementary biochemical and biophysical methods. The research aims to reveal how macromolecular complexes involved in nucleic acid metabolism are assembled and regulated at the molecular level.

The postholder will design and conduct experiments, analyse complex structural and biochemical data, and contribute to the development of new experimental approaches for studying large molecular assemblies. Responsibilities include preparing samples, performing cryo-EM data collection and analysis, conducting biochemical assays, and interpreting results within the context of protein–nucleic acid complex function. The role also involves preparing scientific manuscripts, presenting findings at scientific meetings, and collaborating with other researchers within the LMB and external institutions.

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology provides an exceptional research environment with access to advanced facilities and expertise across structural biology, molecular biology, and computational analysis. The institute supports interdisciplinary collaboration and encourages innovative approaches to fundamental biological questions.

The appointment is offered as a fixed-term contract within the LMB research programme and provides an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers to develop their independent research profile while working within a globally recognised centre of scientific excellence.
