Postdoctoral Researcher – Cultural Psychiatry and Health Inequalities (CHiMES)

This full-time, fixed-term post invites an early-career researcher to join the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford and contribute to the CHiMES programme, a collaborative research initiative that explores cultural influences on mental health and addresses systemic health inequalities through innovative mixed-methods research. You will work within a diverse research environment, advancing knowledge on culturally informed mental health care pathways and interventions, and participate in rigorous analysis, data collection and research governance activities that support multidisciplinary projects across several partner cities in England.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates should hold a PhD (awarded or near completion) in a relevant discipline such as psychiatry, psychology, public health, anthropology, sociology or a related field with strong grounding in mental health research. A track record of empirical research, familiarity with ethical research practices and commitment to inclusive, equity-centred inquiry are expected.

Required Expertise, Skills
Applicants must demonstrate quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills, and experience with complex research design, data management and interpretation. Strong communication skills, including academic writing and collaboration across interdisciplinary teams, are essential. Experience in participatory research approaches, community engagement and co-design methods would be advantageous in contributing to culturally safe research and care pathway work.

Salary Details
The position is offered with a salary in the range of £39,424 to £40,514 per annum (Grade 7).
