University of Exeter – Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy
Cornwall, Penryn, United Kingdom

General Description
The University of Exeter is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Mining Ecology to join the Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy at the Penryn Campus in Cornwall. This position forms part of an interdisciplinary research initiative examining the ecological consequences of mining and strategies for ecological restoration in post-mining landscapes.

The successful candidate will contribute to research focused on understanding the ecological impacts of historic and contemporary mining activities and developing science-based approaches to restoration and sustainable land management. The project will explore how biodiversity, ecosystem processes, and environmental quality respond to mining disturbance and how ecological recovery can be supported through restoration interventions.

The role involves designing and conducting field and laboratory research related to mining-affected ecosystems, analysing ecological data, and developing evidence-based insights that support restoration and sustainable environmental management. The postholder will collaborate with a multidisciplinary research team and contribute to publications in high-impact scientific journals.

Responsibilities include undertaking independent and collaborative research, managing and analysing ecological datasets, contributing to project reporting and dissemination, and engaging with stakeholders connected to environmental restoration and sustainable land-use practices. The position offers opportunities to work within a dynamic research environment that addresses global challenges related to mining, biodiversity conservation, and environmental resilience.
