Postdoctoral Research Associate in Single-source Precursors for Photocatalysis (

Applications are invited for a two-year Postdoctoral Research Associate position in photocatalysis under the supervision of Prof. Dominic Wright within the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge.

The Wright Laboratory is developing new synthetic approaches to state-of-the-art semiconductors for solar-light-driven production of sustainable fuels. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with Prof. Erwin Reisner at Cambridge, specifically focusing on large-area solar-fuel devices using single-source precursor (spray-coating) deposition.

Key Role Responsibilities and Project Scope:

  • Develop new single-source precursors for semiconductors, primarily focusing on SrTiO3 and other strontium titanate phases.

  • Collaborate closely with the Reisner group on practical integrated systems aimed at capturing and utilizing atmospheric CO2 to produce green fuels and valuable chemicals.

  • Publish scientific research in high-impact academic journals and generate novel intellectual property (IP).

  • Contract Type: Full-time, Fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance.

  • Job Reference / Vacancy Reference: MA50676.

  • Funding Body: Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) grant via UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

Required Application Documents: Applicants must upload a Curriculum Vitae (CV), a cover letter, and a publications list in the online portal when submitting their application.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Hold, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.

  • Right to work in the UK or meet the eligibility requirements to live and work in the UK as governed by UK Immigration guidelines.

Required expertise/skills

  • Strong background in synthetic inorganic chemistry and/or materials synthesis, preferably involving air-sensitive compounds and materials.

  • Proven track record of high-quality scientific publications.
