The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Oxford is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join the Graffiti Gazetteer research project. Reporting to Dr. Hana Navratilova, the Principal Investigator, the post holder will contribute to the second phase of this project, which focuses on scaling up a digital research infrastructure that serves as a data repository for secondary epigraphy (graffiti) in Egypt. Supported by funding from the John Fell Fund and building on prior support from Digital Scholarship @Oxford, the project explores digital humanities approaches to historical inscriptional data.

This is a part-time (0.5 FTE), fixed-term position for 12 months, based in central Oxford, with an expected start date of November 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. Interviews are expected to take place during the week commencing September 21, 2026.

Key Responsibilities: • Carrying out primary research, data harvesting, and leading data ingest for the Graffiti Gazetteer repository. • Applying data quality assurance protocols to maintain strict adherence to project data standards. • Collaborating closely with the project’s software development specialist to enhance digital infrastructure. • Undertaking grant scoping, contributing to funding applications, grant development, and research proposal writing for future project phases. • Working both independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary academic team.]
