The Department of Philosophy and History of Ideas at the University of Copenhagen is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Position in Social Philosophy. This is a fixed-term research appointment focused on advancing theoretical and applied research in contemporary social philosophy within an international and interdisciplinary academic environment.

The position is part of the department’s commitment to high-level research in philosophy, ethics, and the history of ideas, with particular emphasis on critical social theory, political philosophy, and normative questions concerning society, justice, and collective life. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research activities, produce high-quality scholarly publications, and participate in the department’s academic community.

The role involves independent research as well as collaboration with faculty members and research groups. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to contribute to seminars, workshops, and academic discussions, and to engage actively in the intellectual life of the department.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must hold a PhD in Philosophy or a closely related discipline
  • The PhD must be completed prior to the start of the appointment
  • Strong academic background in social philosophy, political philosophy, or related fields is required
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research at a high academic level
  • Evidence of scholarly publication or publication potential in peer-reviewed venues

Required Expertise/Skills:

  • Expertise in social philosophy, political philosophy, or critical theory
  • Strong analytical and conceptual reasoning skills
  • Ability to produce high-quality academic writing and research outputs
  • Experience engaging with interdisciplinary philosophical debates is advantageous
  • Capacity for independent research and collaboration in academic environments
  • Strong communication skills for academic dissemination and participation in seminars

Salary Details

Salary and employment conditions will follow the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and relevant academic unions. Compensation includes standard postdoctoral salary, pension contributions, and associated benefits.
