Post-Doctoral Research Associate: Nuclear Quantum Effects in Excited States (Fixed Term)

University of Cambridge – Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry

Cambridge, United Kingdom

General Description
The Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position focused on Nuclear Quantum Effects in Excited States. This fixed-term role is available for two years in the first instance and will be undertaken within the research group of Professor Mariana Rossi.

The successful candidate will contribute to research associated with the ERC Consolidator Grant project “QUADYMM.” The research focuses on developing theoretical and computational methodologies to investigate nuclear quantum effects in electronically excited states. The role involves the development of advanced simulation techniques based on imaginary-time path-integral approximations and applying them to different types of excited-state dynamics.

The postholder will conduct benchmarking studies on model systems and design a multi-scale computational workflow to apply the developed techniques to low-dimensional interfaces involving molecular materials. Implementation of these methods will be carried out using an in-house code designed for methodological development and integrated into large-scale electronic structure codes for broader applications.

The position offers the opportunity to work within a vibrant and collaborative research group in an excellent computational research environment with access to substantial computational resources. The role encourages collaboration with both theoretical and experimental research groups and supports participation in international scientific conferences and research dissemination activities.

The University of Cambridge actively supports equality, diversity, and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society. The department particularly welcomes applications from women and candidates from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds who are currently under-represented at this level. Applicants must also meet eligibility requirements to live and work in the United Kingdom.

Applications should include a Curriculum Vitae (CV), a covering letter, and a list of publications uploaded through the online application system. Applicants should quote reference number MA49058 in their application and any related correspondence. Informal enquiries about the position may be directed to Professor Mariana Rossi at mr2102@cam.ac.uk.
