PhD Position – Cell Cycle Control and Root Development

Host Institution: Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (CBMSO), Madrid, Spain
Principal Investigators: Dr. Bénédicte Desvoyes & Prof. Crisanto Gutiérrez

Research Theme

Cell cycle dynamics, cell fate specification, and plant root development.

Project Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to investigate how cell cycle progression influences gene expression programs and cell fate decisions during root development. Building on recent discoveries showing cell cycle duration gradients during root organogenesis, the project will explore how specific cell cycle phases regulate tissue patterning, stem cell niche organization, and lateral root formation.

Methods & Approaches

  • Plant genetics and molecular biology
  • Cell biology and reporter lines
  • Advanced confocal microscopy

Funding & Duration

  • Fully funded PhD position
  • Duration: 4 years

Candidate Profile

  • Master’s degree in Plant Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field
  • Strong interest in plant development and cell cycle regulation

Application

Deadline: 15 February 2026
