The Nuffield Department of Population Health (NDPH) at the University of Oxford is inviting applications for the NDPH Intermediate Fellowship, a prestigious opportunity designed to support experienced researchers in developing an independent research programme that advances population health science. The department hosts world-renowned research groups and offers a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment for both research and teaching.

The fellowship is intended for researchers who are ready to establish themselves as independent investigators. Fellows will lead their own research project within a broader programme aligned with the department’s strategic priorities. The award is for a fixed term of three years and includes funding to support research-related costs, including the potential appointment of a research assistant where appropriate.

Applicants are required to submit a CV, a Supporting Statement, and a detailed Research Plan. The Supporting Statement should clearly demonstrate the applicant’s motivation and how they meet the selection criteria, while the Research Plan must outline the proposed research in accordance with provided guidance.

This is a full-time position, with consideration given to part-time arrangements where applicable.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must hold a relevant PhD and demonstrate substantial postdoctoral research experience. Candidates should have a strong academic track record, including authorship of high-impact publications. A clear, feasible, and relevant research proposal aligned with population health priorities is essential.

Required expertise/skills
Candidates should demonstrate advanced research capability in population health or a closely related field, with evidence of independent thinking and the ability to lead a research programme. Strong publication history, experience in multidisciplinary collaboration, and the ability to contribute to the academic environment of the department are required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to develop competitive research proposals, are essential.

Salary details
£49,119 – £58,265 per annum (Research Grade 8)
