Modelling the Aetiology and Spatio-Temporal Distribution of Infectious Intestinal Disease and Antimicrobial Resistance Across Community and Healthcare Systems in the UK
The University of Liverpool is offering a fully funded PhD studentship focused on advancing the understanding of infectious intestinal diseases (IID) and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) across community and healthcare settings in the United Kingdom. This interdisciplinary research project will investigate the causes, transmission pathways, and spatio-temporal distribution of IID and AMR using advanced epidemiological, statistical, and computational modelling approaches.
The successful candidate will work with large-scale surveillance, clinical, microbiological, and environmental datasets to identify disease patterns, quantify risk factors, and evaluate the interactions between healthcare systems and community transmission. The research aims to generate evidence that supports public health policy, disease surveillance, infection prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship strategies.
The project provides an opportunity to collaborate with leading researchers and public health partners while receiving comprehensive doctoral training in infectious disease epidemiology, data science, spatial statistics, and health analytics. - A first-class or upper second-class honours degree (or international equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
- Suitable academic backgrounds may include epidemiology, public health, statistics, mathematics, data science, computer science, microbiology, biology, health sciences, or another closely related quantitative discipline.
- Applicants should demonstrate strong analytical ability and an interest in infectious disease research and epidemiological modelling.
- Applicants must satisfy the University of Liverpool’s PhD admission requirements, including any applicable English language requirements.
