Medical Research Scotland funded Daphne Jackson Research Fellowships
Medical Research Scotland funded Daphne Jackson Research Fellowships are designed for individuals wishing to return to an area of medical research following a career break of two years or more taken for family, health, or caring reasons. There are two positions available.
These fellowships are available for up to three years on a part-time basis and support successful applicants through a structured application process that combines a personalized programme of retraining and mentorship.
There is no restriction or requirement on the specific subject or nature of the research, provided it addresses a question relevant to human health or disease. This includes the causation, prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of illness, or the development of medical or surgical appliances (including hearing aids).
When submitting an application, candidates must complete the CV, personal details, and personal statement forms available on the Daphne Jackson Trust website. Applicants must outline their area of research interest and identify the specific department in which they would like to work, including the name and contact details of a potential supervisor who is willing to support the application.
A good first degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).
A PhD, or ideally at least three years of research experience (academic or industrial) prior to the career break, demonstrating evidence of research impacts and outcomes.
A career break of at least two years’ duration, taken from a paid research position for family, health, or caring reasons.
Must be resident in the UK at the time of application and have the right to work in the UK (applicants with a Tier 2 visa or those eligible to apply for a Global Talent Visa will be considered).
Good command of English (both spoken and written).
Strong computer skills.
Proven research experience with documented research impacts and outcomes.
Postdoctoral experience is considered advantageous to strengthen the application.
