General Description – Human Technopole, a dynamic life science research institute in Milan dedicated to advancing biomedical discovery and improving human health, is offering an internship hosted jointly by the Giustacchini Group and the National Facility for Genome Engineering & Disease Modelling. The Giustacchini Group focuses on understanding therapy resistance and relapse in pediatric Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (pAML), leveraging cutting-edge methods including iPSC-derived organoids, functional assays, and single-cell multiomics to explore leukemic stem cells and their interactions within the immune microenvironment. This role places interns at the heart of innovative research, contributing to the development and characterization of iPSC-derived bone marrow organoids as advanced in vitro models for studying novel therapeutic strategies against Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. The experience integrates organoid culture, flow cytometry, imaging, and functional assays, with opportunities to work with primary AML cells in complex model systems.
Eligibility Criteria – Candidates should be currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree programme in Biology, Biotechnology, or a related discipline, or be recent graduates of a Master’s-level programme in a relevant field. A strong interest in cellular and molecular biology, especially hematopoiesis and organoid culture, is essential. Proficiency in English for effective participation in an international research setting is also required.
Required Expertise, Skills – Essential competencies include academic grounding in biological sciences and proven communication skills in English. Previous hands-on experience with cell culture techniques — such as maintenance of cell lines, thawing/freezing, and in vitro functional assays — is preferred and will strengthen the application.
