A fully funded PhD scholarship is available at Northeastern University London within the Network Science Institute, focusing on the project “Individual Patterns Evolution of Social Media Interactions.” This interdisciplinary research opportunity lies at the intersection of network science, computational social science, data science, physics, and complex systems.
The project aims to investigate how individual behavior evolves within social media environments, with a particular emphasis on interaction patterns over time. The research will contribute to a deeper understanding of human behavior in digital ecosystems using advanced computational and network-based methodologies.
The selected candidate will work under the supervision of leading experts, including Dr. Riccardo Di Clemente (lead supervisor), Prof. Esteban Moro, and Prof. Andrew Hone, collaborating across institutions such as Northeastern University London, Northeastern University, and the University of Kent.
This is a full-time PhD position with a duration of approximately 3.5 years. The expected start date for the program is 29 January 2024. The position is open to both UK and international applicants.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
Hold (or be close to completing) a strong undergraduate degree and/or master’s degree in a relevant discipline such as physics, computer science, mathematics, data science, network science, or related fields
Demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills
Show interest in interdisciplinary research, particularly in social systems and computational modeling
Meet English language requirements if applicable
Required Expertise/Skills
Background in one or more of the following: network science, data science, computational social science, physics, or complex systems
Programming skills (e.g., Python, R, or similar)
Experience with data analysis and statistical modeling
Familiarity with large-scale datasets and social media analysis is advantageous
Strong problem-solving abilities and research aptitude
Ability to work collaboratively in an international research environment
