The University of Huddersfield, through its School of Human and Health Sciences, is offering fully funded PhD research scholarships for an October 2026 intake. These doctoral research studentships provide an opportunity for candidates to undertake advanced interdisciplinary research in health sciences, healthcare, psychology, policing, social justice, public health, neuroscience, housing safety, and related fields within a vibrant academic and research-focused environment.
The scholarships are highly competitive and support outstanding applicants pursuing innovative research projects addressing contemporary social, healthcare, wellbeing, and public policy challenges. Successful candidates will join an established research community with access to experienced supervisors, interdisciplinary collaborations, and institutional research support.
Available research opportunities include:
- Social Movements and Transitional Justice in Armed Conflict and Post-Conflict Contexts
- Rhythmic Synchronisation in Reading and Mathematical Difficulties
- Cognitive Effects of E-Cigarette Use
- Improving Fit, Comfort, and Functionality of Mounted Police PPE
- Neurodiversity, Trauma Exposure, and Occupational Wellbeing in Policing and Disaster Response
- Poor Quality Housing, Domestic Fire Risk, and Fire and Rescue Prevention Strategies
- Reducing Inequalities in Perinatal Mental Health Support for LGBTQIA+ Communities
The programme encourages applicants to discuss research ideas with potential supervisors before submitting formal applications. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews conducted online via Microsoft Teams between 6 July 2026 and 24 July 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applications are open to UK applicants only
- Candidates should ideally possess an MSc in a relevant subject area
- Applicants with a First-Class Honours degree may also be considered
- Strong academic and research background required
- Candidates must demonstrate research potential and subject-specific interest relevant to the chosen project
- International applications for fully funded studentships for 2026/27 are currently closed
Required Expertise/Skills
- Strong academic writing and analytical skills
- Research proposal development capabilities
- Quantitative and/or qualitative research skills depending on project area
- Ability to undertake interdisciplinary research
- Communication and collaboration skills suitable for academic environments
- Subject-specific expertise in health sciences, psychology, criminology, sociology, public health, neuroscience, healthcare, or related disciplines
- For selected projects, programming, neuroscience methods, statistical analysis, or mixed-methods research experience may be advantageous
Salary Details
- Full tuition fee coverage for 3 years full-time study
- Tax-free bursary (stipend) starting at £21,805 for the 2026/27 academic year
