The Cyprus Institute (CyI), an international science and technology-oriented research and education institution, invites applications for a faculty position in Machine Learning within the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC). The appointment is expected at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor and is offered as a full-time, tenure-track or tenured position based at the Institute’s Athalassa Campus in Nicosia, Cyprus.
The successful candidate will contribute to advancing the Institute’s research agenda in computational science and technology, particularly in the application and development of advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence methods. The faculty member will develop and lead a world-class research program and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the Institute’s research centres.
Key responsibilities include developing innovative research programs in applied data science, contributing to the Institute’s research and educational mission, mentoring and supervising graduate students, and building interdisciplinary collaborations. The candidate will also actively contribute to the Institute’s graduate programs, supervise doctoral and master’s students, secure external research funding, and communicate research outcomes across academic, policy, and public audiences.
The Institute fosters a collaborative research environment and encourages interdisciplinary work across its research centres. The position provides opportunities to work in areas such as large-scale data analytics, advanced computational modelling, and data-driven scientific discovery while leveraging advanced computing technologies and research infrastructure.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computational Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates should demonstrate a strong research profile and the ability to establish an internationally recognized research program. Experience in teaching and mentoring graduate students is required, as faculty members are expected to contribute to doctoral and master’s programs. Applicants should have excellent communication skills and proficiency in English.
Required expertise/skills
Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, particularly in areas related to applied data science. Relevant research expertise may include big data analytics, data mining, knowledge and information retrieval, and advanced machine learning methodologies. Preference will be given to applicants with experience applying machine learning methods in scientific or engineering contexts and with expertise in advanced computing technologies such as high-performance computing (HPC) and cloud computing.

Starting Salary:
Assistant Professor band CyI7.1 – €55,668.86 annually
Associate Professor band CyI9.1 – €70,648.69 annually
