General Description
The Mary Lyon Centre (MLC) at the Medical Research Council (MRC) is an internationally recognised genetics research hub situated on the innovative science campus in Harwell, Oxfordshire, supporting academic and biotech research into human disease through high‑quality mouse models. The MLC forms a key part of the UK biomedical research landscape and contributes to the National Mouse Genetics Network. In this role, the Experimental Project Manager will serve as the principal liaison between scientific researchers and technical teams, facilitating the planning, coordination, execution and evaluation of experimental work involving genetically altered mouse models under stringent ethical frameworks and Home Office regulations (Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 2012).
This position requires a robust scientific background and project management experience, with responsibilities including advising on experimental design, generating quotes and timelines, delivering and monitoring experimental plans, ensuring procedural compliance with ISO9001 standards, reviewing data quality, and assisting in drafting and critiquing project licences for experimental work. The role’s scope also includes communication and coordination across multiple internal teams to ensure timely, standards‑driven delivery of experiments.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should hold a PhD in Genetics or Biology or a closely related discipline. Equivalent experience managing research projects at post‑doctoral or similar levels is also expected. A demonstrated interest in animal welfare and research compliance, along with substantial experience in experimental design and data analysis, are essential for success in this role. Prior experience working under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act and familiarity with rigorous experimental planning are required.
Required Expertise/Skills
Extensive experience in experimental design and planning within a biological research context.
Strong organisational and communication skills to coordinate complex workflows across research and technical teams.
Knowledge of genetically altered model systems and associated ethical/licensing requirements.
Ability to generate detailed experimental plans, quotes and timelines, and quality‑check resultant data.
Competence in ensuring compliance with ISO9001 standards and regulatory frameworks governing animal research.
Salary Details
£52,253 per annum (standard grade for the role).
