General Description
The School of History and Geography at Dublin City University invites applications for a full‑time Assistant Professor position in Irish and/or European Medieval History on a fixed‑term contract. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and research across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Teaching responsibilities include the design and delivery of core and optional modules on the BA Joint Honours and the Bachelor of Religious Education with History programmes, with potential involvement in the MA in History and other faculty offerings. Opportunities to supervise postgraduate research are supported. The School is committed to high‑quality research and expects regular publication in leading journals and with recognised academic presses, alongside active engagement in securing external research funding. The role encompasses participation in service activities that support the School’s academic mission.

Eligibility Criteria

  • PhD in History or closely related field.

  • Research specialism in non‑European history pre‑1800, ideally complementing existing strengths within the School.

  • Undergraduate teaching experience, including module design and coordination, with evidence of innovative pedagogies, assessments or use of technology.

  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate modules in global history and the history of empires.

  • Strong research record appropriate to career stage, with evidence of an independent research programme and potential to attract competitive funding.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with evidence of teamwork and a collegial approach.

  • Ideally a minimum of three years’ relevant postdoctoral experience.

Required Expertise/Skills

  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development and delivery across programmes.

  • Capacity for scholarly publication at international standards.

  • Experience or potential in postgraduate supervision.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive academic environment and engaging in professional service.

  • Desirable: postgraduate teaching experience, supervision/examination experience, and a track record of public engagement.

Salary Details
Assistant Professor (above bar) salary range: €64,583 to €103,501 per annum (appointment commensurate with qualifications and experience, in line with government pay policy).
