Durham University is recruiting for an Assistant Professor (Grade 8/9) within the Department of Computer Science. The successful candidate will contribute to world-class research output, deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and support curriculum development within the department. The role also involves supervising student research projects, contributing to departmental administration, and engaging in external research collaborations and grant-funded initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria:
• Candidates must hold a PhD (or be near completion) in Computer Science or a closely related discipline
• Evidence of research excellence or strong research potential is required
• Experience in higher education teaching or academic instruction is desirable
• Applicants must meet Durham University’s academic appointment standards for Grade 8/9 roles
Required Expertise/Skills:
• Strong background in computer science or related computational disciplines
• Evidence of research capability, including publications or equivalent outputs
• Ability to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• Experience in curriculum development or academic supervision is desirable
• Strong programming, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research environments
• Excellent communication and academic writing skills
• Capacity to contribute to research funding applications and departmental development
Salary Details
£46,735 – £70,209 per annum (Grade 8/9, depending on experience and appointment level)
