PDRA in Dark Matter Searches with ATLAS – Postdoctoral Research Associate

University of Oxford
Oxford, United Kingdom

An exciting research opportunity is available for an early-career physicist to join the Physics Department at the University of Oxford as a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) focusing on dark matter searches using the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. This role places the successful candidate at the forefront of experimental particle physics, working on one of the most compelling scientific questions of our time: uncovering the nature of dark matter through high-energy proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment.

The position involves participating in cutting-edge analyses to identify potential signatures of dark matter within complex collision events. Work will include precision data analysis, development of novel search strategies, and collaboration with a broad international team of physicists. You will contribute to advancing our understanding of fundamental particles and forces, helping to constrain or reveal new physics beyond the Standard Model through rigorous interpretation of ATLAS results.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should hold a completed PhD (or be near completion) in Physics or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated experience in experimental particle physics and in working with large high-energy physics datasets is expected at this level. Familiarity with the research environment of major collaborations and projects is advantageous.

Require expertise, skills
The role calls for strong analytical and computational skills, including expertise in data analysis frameworks used in high-energy physics. Experience with the ATLAS experiment or similar collider experiments, proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python, and a solid understanding of statistical methods in particle physics are key to success. Effective communication and teamwork within large international collaborations are essential.

Salary details
The salary for this fixed-term post is within the range of £39,424 to £47,779 per annum (Research Grade 7), reflecting the successful candidate’s level of experience.

Application Deadline
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 25 March 2026.
