The University of Liverpool’s Department of Chemistry is seeking an innovative and motivated scientist to join its interdisciplinary research team as a Postdoctoral Research Associate focused on developing advanced heterogeneous catalysts that convert carbon dioxide into valuable light olefins. This fixed-term role (36 months) is part of a wider initiative linked to sustainable chemical manufacturing and contributes to ambitious goals within the UK’s Great British Chemicals programme. The successful candidate will engage in a blend of high-throughput experimental techniques and AI-assisted methodologies to design, synthesize and evaluate catalytic materials that can facilitate efficient CO₂ conversion. The position offers exposure to cutting-edge research infrastructure and collaboration across diverse scientific teams within a supportive academic environment.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should hold a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline, with a strong academic and research track record in catalysis. Candidates who are awaiting formal award of their doctorate may be appointed initially at a Grade 6 salary, with progression to Grade 7 once the PhD is confirmed.
Require Expertise, Skills
Demonstrated expertise in synthesis and characterisation of heterogeneous catalysts.
Experience with gas phase catalysis testing and high-throughput experimentation.
Capability to adopt and integrate machine learning or AI techniques into catalyst development workflows.
A proactive research approach and a strong publication record are highly desirable.
Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams and contribute to scientific outputs is essential.
Salary Details
The appointment is on Grade 7, with a salary range of £39,906 – £46,049 per annum. If the PhD has not yet been formally awarded at the time of appointment, the initial salary will reflect Grade 6 terms until confirmation of the doctorate.
