Professorship in Educational Transitions – Danish School of Education

Aarhus University
Copenhagen or Aarhus, Denmark

General Description – including all available relevant information of this position
Aarhus University’s Danish School of Education (DPU), within the Faculty of Arts, is recruiting for a senior academic role at the level of Professor, based either at the Emdrup Campus in Copenhagen or the Aarhus Campus in Aarhus. This permanent, full-time professorship is centred on educational transitions — with a particular emphasis on educational and/or career guidance, the processes that shape learners’ trajectories, and the factors that influence transitions across educational phases. The appointed professor will be expected to engage deeply in the core missions of the school: world-class research, inspiring teaching across Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in education science, and meaningful knowledge exchange with stakeholders in professional fields and wider society. The position requires active participation in the daily life of the Department of Education Studies, including supervising students and contributing to a vibrant academic community that bridges empirical, methodological and theoretical perspectives in education. The role may involve some travel between the two campuses as part of collaborative work.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should possess a distinguished record of academic achievement consistent with professorial standards. This includes a strong publication record at the highest international level and documented contributions to educational research. A demonstrated capacity to contribute to the academic leadership of research, teaching and educational development, as well as a vision for advancing the field of educational transitions, are integral to eligibility.

Required Expertise, Skills
The successful candidate will have expertise in research related to educational transitions, career guidance or similar domains, supported by a clear methodological and theoretical grounding. They should be experienced in leading research initiatives, acquiring external research funding, and contributing to cross-disciplinary activities. Experience teaching and supervising across degree levels is expected, along with a commitment to knowledge exchange that contributes to professional fields and public discourse. Fluency in English is required; additional language competence appropriate to the academic context is beneficial.
