This full-time, fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Associate role at University College London’s Department of Political Science offers a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge empirical research within the BreaktheBias project, a project funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). The successful candidate will join a dynamic team exploring structural and procedural barriers to equitable access to international human rights justice, drawing on large datasets, computational methods and interdisciplinary insights to generate impactful scholarship and deepen understanding of systemic inequalities. The position is available from October 2025 and has a duration of 36 months.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in law, political science or a related discipline with a strong empirical component. Evidence of strong analytical capability and an interest in human rights research, justice systems and data-driven inquiry is expected.
Required Expertise, Skills
Candidates must demonstrate experience in handling and analysing large datasets, including quantitative empirical research. Familiarity with coding and analytical tools, and experience with machine learning methods (such as large language models) for extracting patterns from complex text data, is desirable. Knowledge of international human rights adjudication processes and additional language skills (e.g. French or Spanish) would be advantageous. Excellent communication skills for academic dissemination and collaborative research are also essential.
Salary Details
The post offers a competitive salary in the range of approximately £44,480 to £46,796 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance (exact figure dependent on experience and UCL pay scales).
