Position Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Humanities to participate in a grant-funded initiative titled “Restoring Trust: Humanistic Perspectives on Academic Freedom, American Democracy, and Higher Education Leadership.” This fellowship aims to explore how humanities scholarship and university leadership can collaboratively address challenges in promoting free and open discourse on controversial topics, strengthen trust within higher education, and contribute to the broader future of academic institutions in a polarized society.
Key Responsibilities
The Postdoctoral Fellow will:
- Conduct independent research related to the project theme.
- Participate in monthly academic seminar sessions involving faculty, administrators, and graduate students on topics such as democracy in higher education, academic freedom, and institutional policy.
- Serve as project manager for seminar activities, public programs, and engagement meetings that involve cross-campus collaboration and discussions with university leadership.
- Work closely with faculty mentors and campus partners to support the initiative’s goals.
Qualifications
Required:
- PhD in the humanities or a related field with a strong foundation in humanistic inquiry.
- Research interests that align with themes of democracy, academic freedom, and the role of higher education.
- Ability to be in residence at CU Boulder by August 1, 2026.
Preferred:
- Experience with interdisciplinary research and collaboration across academic units.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to academic seminar discussions and public engagement.
Professional Development & Mentorship
The Postdoctoral Fellow will receive mentorship from faculty in the School of Education and other CU Boulder scholars whose interests align with the project theme. Additional mentoring and support are available through CU Boulder’s Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.
