Postdoctoral Research Associate – Phase-Change Material Platforms for Nanophotonic and Neuromorphic Computing
The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Queen Mary University of London is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join their research team. The postholder will develop phase-change material platforms for nanophotonic and neuromorphic computing applications, effectively integrating material physics with advanced device architectures.

Eligibility Criteria:
• Holds a PhD in Materials Science, Photonics, Applied Physics, Electronic Engineering, or a closely related academic discipline.
• Proven experience working with phase-change materials, such as GST and other chalcogenides.
• Strong background in nanophotonics or integrated photonics.
Required expertise/skills:
• Solid understanding of device physics, including switching dynamics, endurance, and energy efficiency.
• Hands-on experience in nano-device fabrication and characterisation.
• Knowledge of neuromorphic or non-von Neumann device concepts.
• Experience designing and operating optical and electrical measurement setups.
• Strong analytical and modelling skills, with the ability to bridge materials science, device physics, and system-level applications.
• Proven publication record in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
• Capability to thrive in an interdisciplinary environment spanning materials, photonics, and artificial intelligence.
• Desirable/Advantageous: Experience integrating phase-change materials with silicon photonics, working on memristive devices, machine learning-based optimization, wafer-scale fabrication, or industrial collaboration.
Salary details: £38,419 to £49,130 per annum Full-Time, Fixed-Term Contract
