General Description
Imperial College London is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to the ERC Advanced Grant project Machine-Aided General Framework for Fluctuating Dynamic Density Functional Theory (MAGFFDDFT). The successful candidate will work on developing a general theoretical framework for nonequilibrium processes, bridging fundamental statistical mechanics with practical applications across complex systems.

The research will focus on advancing theoretical and computational approaches to nonequilibrium phenomena, including fluctuating dynamic density functional theory, coarse-graining techniques, hydrodynamics of observables, and related methodologies. The position offers the opportunity to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team working at the interface of statistical physics, machine learning, fluid dynamics, and computational modelling. The researcher will contribute to high-impact publications, collaborative research activities, and the broader objectives of the ERC-funded programme.

Eligibility Criteria

  • PhD (or equivalent) in Physics, Chemical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistical Mechanics, Theoretical Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong research background in theoretical and computational modelling of nonequilibrium systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills suitable for interdisciplinary research environments.

Required Expertise/Skills

  • Statistical mechanics and nonequilibrium thermodynamics.
  • Fluctuating Dynamic Density Functional Theory (FDDFT) or related theoretical frameworks.
  • Mathematical modelling and analytical methods.
  • Computational physics and scientific programming.
  • Experience with coarse-graining techniques, hydrodynamics, or complex systems modelling.
  • Ability to work effectively within an international multidisciplinary research team and contribute to collaborative projects.

Salary Details
Salary will be in accordance with Imperial College London’s Research Associate pay scale and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
