Imperial College London is recruiting a Research Associate in Machine Learning and Computational Psychiatry focused on the development of digital mental health interventions. The position is part of an interdisciplinary research programme integrating artificial intelligence, computational modelling, and clinical psychiatry to advance understanding and treatment of mental health conditions through digital technologies.

The successful candidate will contribute to research at the intersection of machine learning, computational neuroscience, psychiatry, and digital health innovation. The role involves developing and applying advanced computational models to psychiatric data, designing machine learning algorithms for mental health assessment and intervention, and collaborating with clinical and academic partners to translate research findings into real-world digital health solutions.

The postholder will be expected to contribute to high-impact publications, support grant-funded research activities, engage in collaborative interdisciplinary projects, and assist in mentoring junior researchers and students. The position offers an opportunity to work within a leading research environment with strong links to clinical practice and health technology innovation.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must hold a PhD (or be near completion) in a relevant discipline such as Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Computational Neuroscience, Psychiatry, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong research experience in computational modelling, machine learning, or data science applied to health or behavioural data
  • Demonstrated ability to publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Experience working with clinical, psychological, or healthcare datasets is desirable
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required

Required Expertise/Skills

  • Machine learning methods including supervised, unsupervised, and deep learning techniques
  • Computational psychiatry or computational neuroscience approaches
  • Programming skills in relevant languages such as Python or MATLAB
  • Statistical analysis and data modelling
  • Experience with healthcare or mental health data analysis
  • Scientific writing and research communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary research teams
