The University of Huddersfield is offering fully funded PhD research studentships within the School of Human and Health Sciences for an October 2026 intake. These competitive studentships are designed to support high-quality interdisciplinary research across a range of health sciences, psychology, sociology, policing, public health, transitional justice, housing safety, and perinatal mental health topics.

The funded opportunities include research projects focused on:
• Social Movements and Transitional Justice “from below”: Exploring Grassroots Activism in Armed Conflicts and Post-Conflict Contexts
• When Timing Breaks Down: Rhythmic Synchronisation in Reading and Mathematical Difficulties
• Understanding the Cognitive Effects of E-cigarette Use
• Improving Fit, Comfort and Functionality of Mounted Police Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Neurodiversity, Trauma Exposure and Occupational Wellbeing in Policing and Disaster Response Roles
• Poor Quality Housing, Domestic Fire Risk and the Prevention Agenda
• Reducing Inequalities in Perinatal Mental Health Support for LGBTQIA+ People

The successful applicants will join a vibrant interdisciplinary research environment within the School of Human and Health Sciences and collaborate with leading academics, practitioner communities, and partner organisations. Research methodologies may include qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, behavioural research, EEG/neuroscience methods, realist evaluation, case studies, interviews, digital ethnography, and policy-focused analysis depending on the project area.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interview by 29 June 2026. Interviews are expected to take place via Microsoft Teams between 6 July 2026 and 24 July 2026. The University encourages applicants to discuss their ideas with prospective supervisors prior to submitting applications.

Salary details

• Fully funded 3-year full-time PhD studentship
• Tuition fees covered
• Tax-free bursary (stipend) starting at £21,805 for the 2026/27 academic year
