The Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) at the University of Oxford is seeking a capable, well-organised, and motivated HR Officer to join its Professional Services team. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to a busy academic environment within one of the world’s leading universities.
The HR Officer will work closely with the HR Manager, departmental colleagues, and wider University teams to deliver a high-quality and efficient HR service. The postholder will be responsible for supporting a broad range of HR functions including recruitment processes, staff induction, preparation of contractual documentation, and maintenance of HR records using the University’s PeopleXD system. The role also involves acting as a first point of contact for HR-related queries and supporting HR initiatives and project-based work across the department.
This position sits within a dynamic teaching and research-focused department, offering exposure to diverse HR activities and opportunities to contribute to ongoing organisational development and improvement projects. The role requires a strong commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and professional service delivery.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should have relevant experience in an HR or administrative role, ideally within a complex organisational or academic environment. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism. Experience in handling sensitive information and working within structured HR processes is essential.
Required expertise/skills
Candidates should possess strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Proficiency in IT systems, particularly Microsoft Excel, is required. Experience using HR systems such as PeopleXD is desirable. Applicants should demonstrate attention to detail, strong customer service orientation, and the ability to manage confidential matters with tact and discretion. A willingness to develop HR knowledge and potentially work towards a CIPD qualification is advantageous.
Salary details
£32,108 – £37,338 per annum (Standard Grade 5)
