About the role
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will join the Research for Economic Security and Peace (RESP) project at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, reporting to Professor Yeling Tan. The RESP project examines how the design of economic security policies and bureaucratic structures shapes international peace and stability.

The role contributes directly to the empirical and analytical core of the project. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the construction and analysis of new cross-national datasets and contributing to the development of high-quality research outputs. The postholder will also provide administrative support to the research team and offer guidance to junior researchers within the group. The position is embedded within a collaborative, multi-site international research environment with a strong focus on policy-relevant scholarship and academic excellence.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must hold (or be close to completing) a PhD/DPhil in political science or a closely related discipline. A specialisation in international relations, international political economy, or international security is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong quantitative research skills, including experience in constructing and analysing original datasets and applying advanced statistical methods. A sound understanding of economic security policy areas such as trade policy or export controls is essential.

Required expertise/skills
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong record or clear potential for high-quality academic research. Expertise in quantitative research methods and dataset construction is essential. Strong analytical and communication skills are required for engaging both academic and policy audiences. The role also requires excellent organisational ability, independence in managing research tasks, and a collaborative approach to team-based work. Experience supporting or mentoring junior researchers, as well as willingness to undertake international travel for research engagement, will be considered advantageous.

Salary details
£39,424 – £47,779 per annum (Research Grade 7)
