General Description
The University of Exeter is seeking to appoint a Graduate Research Assistant or Postgraduate Research Associate to support an NIHR-funded research project within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, School of Psychology. The role is part-time (0.4 FTE) and will commence on 1 July 2026, running on a fixed-term basis until 30 June 2027.
The post supports the project titled “Co-Developing a Video-Based Intervention to Support Parents of Children with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID): An Early Evaluation.” The research is led by Dr Maddy Greville-Harris and focuses on improving understanding and support mechanisms for families affected by ARFID through participatory and co-development methodologies.
The successful candidate will contribute to the design, delivery, and evaluation of the intervention, working closely with parents and lived experience consultants to co-develop research materials. Responsibilities include coordinating patient and public involvement (PPI) activities, liaising with stakeholders, developing and distributing qualitative and quantitative survey instruments, and supporting data collection, analysis, and dissemination of findings. The role also involves contributing to academic outputs including reports and publications.
The position offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative research environment focused on clinically relevant psychological and behavioural health research, with a strong emphasis on applied impact and stakeholder engagement.
Eligibility Criteria
For the Graduate Research Assistant role, applicants should hold a relevant undergraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in psychology or a related discipline and demonstrate knowledge of research methods.
For the Postgraduate Research Associate role, applicants should hold a relevant PhD (or be near completion) or equivalent professional experience in a related field.
Applicants should demonstrate eligibility to work within the UK and meet any institutional requirements set by the University of Exeter.
Required Expertise/Skills
Experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, including data collection and analysis.
Ability to coordinate research activities and manage engagement with stakeholders, including individuals with lived experience.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple aspects of a research project.
Experience or understanding of clinical populations, particularly eating disorders or ARFID, is desirable.
Ability to contribute to academic writing, dissemination activities, and research reporting.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
Salary Details
£33,951 to £34,610 per annum (pro rata for 0.4 FTE), Grade E, depending on qualifications, skills, and experience.
