General Description
Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge. This research-focused role is part of an interdisciplinary programme advancing cutting-edge chemical engineering and biotechnology methodologies.
The postholder will contribute to high-impact research involving advanced experimental and/or computational approaches within chemical engineering systems. The project is designed to address fundamental and applied challenges in chemical and biological process engineering, with a strong emphasis on innovation, scalability, and translational impact.
The role is embedded in a highly collaborative academic environment, working alongside researchers in engineering, materials science, and biotechnology. Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should hold (or be close to completing) a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate:
- Strong academic background in a relevant scientific or engineering field
- Experience in experimental research, computational modelling, or both, relevant to chemical/biochemical systems
- Ability to design and conduct independent research projects
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Evidence of scientific writing ability, including peer-reviewed publications or preprints
- Capacity to work effectively in collaborative, interdisciplinary research environments
Required Expertise/Skills
Essential skills include:
- Knowledge of chemical engineering principles or biotechnological systems
- Experience with laboratory techniques, experimental design, or process modelling (depending on project focus)
- Data analysis skills and familiarity with scientific computing tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or equivalent)
- Ability to manage research workflows and contribute to project delivery timelines
- Strong communication skills for presenting research outcomes in academic and technical settings
Desirable skills may include:
- Experience in advanced materials, process engineering, or biological systems engineering
- Familiarity with automation, high-throughput experimentation, or data-driven modelling approaches
- Prior experience working in multidisciplinary research collaborations
- Experience contributing to grant writing or collaborative publications
Salary Details
£37,694 – £46,049 per annum
