Postdoctoral Research Associate

Queen Mary University of London – Blizard Institute

London, United Kingdom

Two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are available within the laboratories of Dr Radu Zabet and Professor Silvia Marino as part of a 3-year project funded by Barts Charity. The successful candidates will lead innovative research focused on developing personalised approaches for predicting drug responses in glioblastoma, an aggressive and currently untreatable brain tumour.

The project leverages advanced experimental platforms, including novel CRISPR-dCas9 epigenetic screening technologies and cerebral organoid co-culture systems. These systems will be applied to patient-derived tumour stem cells alongside matched induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neural stem cells.

The research environment is highly collaborative, with both laboratories having an established track record of joint publications and ongoing partnerships, including co-supervision of PhD students and regular joint lab meetings. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge translational cancer research within a leading academic institution.

[Eligibility Criteria]

  • A PhD (or near completion) in a relevant discipline such as molecular biology, cancer biology, genetics, or a related biomedical field
  • Strong background in experimental research relevant to cancer or stem cell biology
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and contribute to collaborative projects
  • Evidence of scientific publications or equivalent research outputs

[Required expertise/skills]

  • Experience with advanced molecular biology techniques
  • Knowledge of CRISPR-based technologies and/or epigenetic screening approaches
  • Familiarity with stem cell systems, organoid models, or cancer biology (particularly glioblastoma research)
  • Strong data analysis, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary research teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
