General Description
The University of Essex is recruiting a Research Fellow to contribute to an exciting project at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and health research. This position is embedded within a multidisciplinary team focused on developing and applying AI-driven methods to improve healthcare outcomes, including predictive analytics, diagnostic tools, and data-driven decision support systems.

The successful candidate will engage in advanced research, including designing and implementing AI models, analysing large and complex health datasets, and collaborating with clinicians, data scientists, and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include contributing to the publication of research findings in high-impact journals, presenting results at conferences, and supporting grant applications.

The post provides an excellent opportunity to advance expertise in AI applications in health while working in a collaborative and supportive academic environment. The appointment is full-time and fixed-term, aligned with the duration of the funded project.

Eligibility Criteria

• PhD in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, health informatics, or a closely related discipline
• Strong background in AI, machine learning, or related computational techniques
• Demonstrated experience in research, including publications or equivalent outputs
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams

Required Expertise/Skills

• Advanced programming and computational skills in languages such as Python, R, or equivalent
• Experience with AI and machine learning frameworks, including deep learning models
• Proficiency in data analysis, model validation, and interpretation of results
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to manage research tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently
• Familiarity with health data governance and ethical considerations in AI applications (desirable)

Salary Details
£39,324 to £42,155 per annum
