PhD Studentship – Embedding Care for People and Planet: Designing Sustainable Floristry

Coventry University

Location: Coventry, United Kingdom

General Description:
Coventry University is offering a PhD studentship within its research programmes focused on sustainability, design, and environmental responsibility. This project explores how principles of care for both people and the planet can be embedded into the floristry industry through sustainable design practices.

The research will investigate the environmental, social, and ethical dimensions of floristry, including supply chains, material use, waste management, and labour practices. The successful candidate will examine how design-led approaches can transform the floristry sector into a more sustainable and responsible practice, integrating ecological awareness with creative and commercial considerations.

The project will involve interdisciplinary research drawing on design, sustainability studies, environmental science, and social innovation. The candidate will engage with stakeholders such as florists, suppliers, and consumers to co-develop sustainable strategies and frameworks. Outputs may include design interventions, case studies, and theoretical contributions to sustainable design practices.

The student will join a dynamic academic environment at Coventry University, benefiting from expert supervision, access to research facilities, and opportunities for collaboration and dissemination through conferences and publications.
