Research Assistant/Associate – AI for Cancer Imaging

General Description:
The University of Cambridge is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant or Research Associate to join an interdisciplinary research project focused on the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in cancer imaging. The position is based within a leading research environment that brings together expertise in mathematics, computer science, and biomedical imaging.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of advanced AI and machine learning methodologies to improve the analysis and interpretation of cancer imaging data. The role involves working with complex imaging datasets, developing novel computational models, and collaborating closely with clinicians and researchers to translate findings into meaningful healthcare applications.
Key responsibilities include conducting independent and collaborative research, implementing and validating machine learning models, publishing results in high-impact academic journals, and presenting findings at international conferences. The postholder will also contribute to ongoing grant-funded research activities and may support the supervision of junior researchers or students.
This position offers an opportunity to work at the interface of AI and healthcare within a dynamic and collaborative academic setting. The appointment is fixed-term, with duration dependent on funding, and is available immediately or as soon as possible thereafter.
Eligibility Criteria:
- For Research Assistant: A good first degree in a relevant discipline such as mathematics, computer science, engineering, or a related field
- For Research Associate: PhD (awarded or submitted) in a relevant discipline
Required Expertise/Skills:
- Strong background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or computational modelling
- Experience working with medical or imaging data (desirable)
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or similar
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks and data analysis tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to conduct independent research and collaborate within interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Track record of publications (for Research Associate level)
Salary Details:
Research Assistant: £29,605 – £33,966 per annum
Research Associate: £36,024 – £44,263 per annum
