Research Fellow – Nanoelectronic Device Fabrication

General Description:
The University of Southampton invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the School of Electronics and Computer Science under Dr. Ruomeng Huang. This position is part of the £10M EXPRESS (Exploiting Single Source Precursors for the Electrochemical Growth of Functional 1D and 2D Metal Dichalcogenide Semiconductors) Programme funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
The successful candidate will focus on the fabrication and optimization of TMDC-based nanoelectronic devices, including transistors and memristive devices, using electrodeposited TMDC materials developed within the EXPRESS programme. Responsibilities include designing and implementing cleanroom fabrication processes (thin film deposition, lithography, mask design, and etching), device and materials characterization (SEM/EDX, XRD, Raman, XPS, electrical I–V measurements), integrating novel materials into device architectures, and developing reliable fabrication protocols.
Collaboration across the EXPRESS consortium, which includes materials synthesis, electrochemistry, and theory teams, is essential. The position is initially offered for 24 months with a potential extension up to three additional years.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Hold a PhD in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
Required Expertise/Skills:
- Experience in nanoelectronic device fabrication and cleanroom processes.
- Proficiency in device and material characterization techniques such as SEM/EDX, XRD, Raman, XPS, and electrical measurements.
- Strong collaborative and communication skills across disciplines.
- Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail.
Salary Details:
- £36,636 to £44,746 per annum
