General Description
The University of St Andrews is seeking an experienced and strategic professional to join its Careers Centre as Assistant Director (Professional Skills). This full-time, permanent position plays a key leadership role in advancing the University’s mission to educate, inspire, and empower students with lifelong career management skills.

The Careers Centre is an established hub of expertise in employability and career development, working collaboratively across the institution and with external stakeholders including employers and alumni. The postholder will contribute to the design, development, and delivery of innovative professional skills programmes that enhance student success and career readiness.

Operating within a culture of continuous improvement and partnership working, the role requires close collaboration with academic and professional services teams, maintaining a “one-team” ethos to deliver high-quality, impactful services. The successful candidate will help shape strategic initiatives, support institutional priorities, and ensure that students are equipped with the skills necessary to pursue meaningful and fulfilling careers.

The role is based within a dynamic and supportive environment at one of the UK’s leading universities, recognised globally for excellence in teaching and research. The expected start date is as soon as possible.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Relevant professional experience in careers, employability, higher education, or related sectors
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage programmes or services
  • Experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Evidence of strategic thinking and contribution to organisational development

  • Strong leadership and team collaboration skills
  • Expertise in employability, professional skills development, or career education
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
  • Experience in programme design, delivery, and evaluation

Salary Details
£47,389 to £58,226 per annum (Grade 7)
