The University of York is seeking to appoint a Research Associate to contribute to a project focused on the development of biobased polymers aimed at supporting the transition toward a defossilised speciality polymer industry. This position is based within the Department of Chemistry and forms part of a broader interdisciplinary research initiative addressing sustainable materials and green chemistry.

The successful candidate will undertake cutting-edge research into the synthesis, characterization, and application of biobased polymer systems. The role involves designing and developing new polymeric materials derived from renewable resources, with a focus on replacing fossil-based inputs in specialty polymer applications. The postholder will collaborate with academic and potentially industrial partners, contributing to innovation in sustainable materials science.

Responsibilities include planning and executing experimental work, analyzing and interpreting research data, and maintaining accurate laboratory records. The Research Associate will also contribute to the dissemination of research findings through high-quality publications, conference presentations, and reports. Additional duties include supporting grant-related activities and engaging in collaborative research within the department and across institutions.

Applicants should hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.

Salary details 
Salary is offered in the range of £36,924 to £45,163 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
