The University of Oxford is seeking a Research Assistant or Research Associate to join the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, one of the world’s leading centres for primary care research and teaching. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to high-impact research focused on improving health outcomes through innovative primary care and population health studies.

The successful candidate will work within an established multidisciplinary research team, contributing to the design, delivery, and dissemination of research projects. Responsibilities include conducting literature reviews, supporting study design and protocol development, managing and analysing quantitative and/or qualitative datasets, and contributing to academic publications and reports. The role may also involve liaising with stakeholders, supporting grant applications, and assisting with the coordination of research activities across collaborating institutions.

This role is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis. The appointment level (Research Assistant or Research Associate) will depend on qualifications and experience. The department provides a collaborative and inclusive research environment, with strong emphasis on professional development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based impact on healthcare policy and practice.

Eligibility Criteria

  • For Research Assistant: A relevant undergraduate degree in a related discipline (e.g., public health, epidemiology, social sciences, or a related field)
  • For Research Associate: A PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant field
  • Demonstrable interest in primary care, health services research, or population health

Required Expertise/Skills

  • Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods
  • Strong data analysis skills using appropriate statistical or qualitative software
  • Ability to manage research projects and meet deadlines effectively
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including academic writing
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in preparing research outputs such as reports, presentations, or peer-reviewed publications

Salary Details
£32,332 to £45,585 per annum (Grade 6/7, depending on qualifications and experience)
