General Description
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), established in 1936 and recognized as a Grade I University by NAAC (2024), invites applications for four Assistant Professor positions on a contract basis, initially for one year, with potential extension based on performance and institutional needs. Two positions are in Development Studies and two in Women Studies. TISS offers a broad range of interdisciplinary programmes across its four campuses in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Guwahati, and Tuljapur, covering undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. studies in social sciences and vocational education. The appointed candidates will contribute to teaching, research, and academic development within their respective schools.
Eligibility Criteria
Master’s degree with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in Development Studies, Women’s Studies, Political Science, Demography, Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, Economics, or related social science fields from an Indian University or accredited foreign university.
Additionally, candidates must satisfy either:
A. NET/SLET/SET qualification or a Ph.D. awarded according to UGC regulations, with:
Ph.D. in regular mode, evaluated by at least two external examiners
Open viva voce conducted
Two research papers published from Ph.D. work (at least one in a refereed journal)
Two conference/seminar presentations based on Ph.D. work
B. Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked in the top 500 by QS, THE, or ARWU rankings.
Required expertise/skills
Strong academic and research competence in Development Studies or Women Studies
Ability to engage in interdisciplinary teaching and research
Capacity for scholarly publication, conference participation, and academic mentorship
Salary details
Consolidated salary: ₹86,088 per month (Pay Band ₹15,600–39,100; AGP ₹6,000 as per 6th CPC)
