General Description
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) invites applications for multiple faculty positions in Numerical Optimization and Scientific Machine Learning within the School of Mathematics and Physics, Department of Applied Mathematics. XJTLU is an international research-oriented university established jointly by the University of Liverpool and Xi’an Jiaotong University, dedicated to excellence in education, research and innovation. The successful candidates will be expected to conduct world-class research, contribute to high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and participate actively in departmental service. The appointment will be at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Associate Professor, or Professor and is based on a full-time contract that is initially for three years and renewable, with the possibility of a longer-term contract after successful review. The department offers a vibrant research environment with strengths spanning differential equations, numerical analysis, optimisation, operational research and their applications. Commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarly output, and successful supervision of student research are core aspects of this role.

Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must have a PhD in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline. For junior positions, it is highly desirable to have at least two years of full-time postdoctoral experience with demonstrable teaching experience and international exposure. For senior appointments, candidates should have a strong record of academic excellence with a minimum of eight years of full-time academic experience, extensive supervisory experience, and a track record in curriculum development and international collaboration.

Required Expertise/Skills

  • Demonstrated research expertise in Numerical Optimization and Scientific Machine Learning; expertise in numerical machine learning is highly expected.

  • Strong commitment to teaching excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, delivered in English.

  • Ability to attract external research funding and supervise PhD students.

  • Collaborative approach to research and departmental activities.

  • For senior roles: extensive experience in programme design, research leadership, and supervision of graduate students.

Salary Details
